We have a great lineup of entertainment at the 28th Chubu Walkathon International Charity Festival that is sure to include something for everyone!
This year marks a departure from what had become a long-standing tradition of a music festival featuring mostly local bands. There's always been the activities for kids, but as 2019 has us gearing up for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, we are mixing things up with team activities
for the grown-ups too.
Here are some highlights:
As always, the opening ceremonies will kick off with Nagoya Women's University High School Marching Band
and the Cherry Blooming Baton Twirlers
.
After the walk, around 10:30, the stage entertainment will kick off with a wide range of acts...
Bentenya is one of the few professional female Chindon-ya in Japan, a kind of marching band dedicated to street advertising who also performs at events or matsuri. They have been gaining notariety as they trot the globe with their unique musical style. The Walkathon is delighted (and lucky) to have them join us!
We will be treated to a modern dance performance by this diverse group of talented dancers. According to their leader, " No matter how old you are, keep shining! "
Mr. Joe (or is that Mr. Magic?) will do his thing and entertain the kids and adults alike!
Local theatre troupe, Nagoya Players', will join us and perform a number of stories from their recent stage productions of Aesop's Fables.
Always popular, we are delighted to have local idol group OS☆U back for a command performance at the Chubu Walkathon!
This is a very talented and interesting group of Taiko (Japanese drum) players that consists of men & women, boys & girls of varying ages.
The hula dancers are back! We are delighted as these kids always put on a great show at the Walkathon!
Steve Pottinger is a Japanese born Native American Flute artist. He plays a fusion of classical and modern styles of music. Steve is no stranger to the Walkathon stage as this versatile musician plays just about every instrument known to man and has appeared with various bands or ensembles. We almost want to call this performance "Fish Tank Flute".
There's also the raffle draws
where you can win big prizes and the Kashimaki
- toss and scramble of a variety of snacks and other goodies! Of course, don't forget the walk itself and for the very active, you will want to take part in the sports/activities
challenges!
